Not true. Remember Intel's Tick-Tock.

Tick = New dye
Tock = New socket.

What does that mean?

When Intel Sandy Bridge was released (Core i5-2500K, Core i7-2600K, etc.), it was known as a Tock rotation, released on socket 1155, when Nehalem was a 32nm silicon, but was on the 1156 / 1366 socket, known as tick, a new dye.

When Ivy bridge, the successor to Sandy Bridge, was released (Core i5-3570K, Core i7 3770K, etc.), it was the Tick rotation, a new dye. Ivy Bridge was released on the 22nm Silicon, but stayed on the 1155 Socket.

When Haswell was released last year, it was the Tock rotation again, a new socket, known as LGA-1150. This year, we got new processors, but they didn't change the socket or dye, because of the constant heat problems Haswell had since launch, thus Haswell Refresh.

When Broadwell swings by next year, it will be the Tick rotation, being on the 14nm Silicon, but staying on the LGA 1150 socket.

I hope this clears the confusion.

Should I go with my build, the AMD build or something else?

It's fine. If you want to upgrade to Broadwell, I would advise on getting a Z97 board.
