i am absolutely posotive this is a genuine copy and has not been tampered with in any way.

Well...there's not much we out here can actually do.

You bought it from Microcenter...what did they say when you asked them why it did not work?

If it doesn't activate, you might have to do it via the phone robot from Microsoft.
But for a valid retail purchase from Microcenter, that should NOT be necessary.

If it was a successful activation, you would not be receiving this message. I'd suggest attempting to activate it again and, if necessary and as USAFRet suggests, call in to Microsoft for the automated activation process.

If that fails, then you really need to take it up to the next level at Micro Center.

The only thing we can suggest is trying online activation again; making sure that you're entering the correct product key.

1's look like L's
0's look like o's
6's look like G's

Aside from that, put up with the message until your phone is fixed.

OK
Yes, a full wipe and reinstall would wipe out any potential virus.
Rather trying to install/update/whatever from your existing Windows install

Did you boot from the install media and try to install it? Or are you trying to do something else?
