Is it worth switching to Intel?

I have a GTX 770 and an FX 8120 clocked to 4GHz. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to switch to an Intel Core i5 4690 and a cheap motherboard. I mostly just use my computer for games and browsing the web. I would really like to see gameplay benchmarks that show settings with an Intel CPU and GTX 770 that I can then run on my own computer and compare results.

no its not worth it for just a few frames , check 3dmark firestrike results but cpu doesnt change much gpu is everything
and yours is not that old it not bottlenecking your gpu yet

Depends on the game really. Check CPU benchmarks for the games you play and see if its worth it. 8120 should be in between the 6300 and 8320 IIRC correctly.

In games like WoW, F1, and skyrim the improvements can be as much as 20fps but in other games, crysis 2, etc it won't help much at all.

I would say wait. If your current system does at least okay with it, get the most out of your investment. Wait a few more years until it truly cannot fulfill your needs, then upgrade then to something even better.

The FX-8120 really is still a capable CPU, and it would be a waste to get rid of it now. Get a better CPU cooler and overclock it more, and save up your money for something awesome in 1 or 2 years!

I'm thinking about getting something like this now. I know I'll want to overclock. I'll be buying the parts in November.

Battlefield games play great on my computer.

The FX 8120 plus the motherboard was only $150. That's not a huge investment. I need a new motherboard to overclock my FX 8120 further due to the 4+1 phase VRM on my motherboard. I didn't know anything about how to pick out a good motherboard when I bought it. I should have done research. I originally planned on going with skylake for the next upgrade but I think that the DDR4 RAM and new motherboards will cost a lot more money than I'm willing to pay. Also I don't think broadwell will be worth the wait because it's just a die shrink with minor improvements. I could buy a decent motherboard for my FX 8120 but who knows if I'll be able to get a good overclock out of it? I want a higher performing CPU because it will give me peace of mind when it comes to gaming. I'll know that my CPU will probably deliver good gaming performance for years whereas the FX 8120 lags behind 5 year old processors already. It's pathetically weak as far as single core performance goes and even in multithreaded performance the Core i5 4690K beats it with half of the cores. If I wait until my CPU can't fulfil my needs I'll probably not be able to play the games I want to play for a long time. I'm pretty poor so I don't get many chances to upgrade and I usually just can't save money because I need it all every month. It just so happens that next month I'll have an extra $750 and it could be my only chance to upgrade for a few years.
