Hi! I'm wondering if you folks could help me with a bit of a problem i'm having with a system i built. I built a pc for gaming 3-4 years ago and was very pleased with it until very recently when it started under-performing in some of the newer MMO's and even some single player games. To fix this i replaced my GFX card thinking it was the weakest link. I barely notice any difference specifically in MMO's such as FFXIV and ArcheAge, and even shooters such as DayZ standalone. I'm going to post my PC specs and hopefully someone can tell me what the actual weakest link is and what i might be able to upgrade to get the most out of my new GFX card.

Operating System

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz 63 °C
Bloomfield 45nm Technology
RAM
6.00GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 762MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
MSI X58A-GD45 (MS-7522) (CPU 1) 56 °C
Graphics
VW246 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (MSI) 49 °C
Storage
465GB Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 ATA Device (SATA) 36 °C
119GB Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series ATA Device (SSD) 36 °C
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS50 ATA Device
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

Thank you in advance for any help!

Your i7 is not really strong these days - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

At 63C its also running too hot. Blow the case and especially the cpu cooler out with compressed air. Bump up the cpu fan speed to over 1000rpm.
If that doesn't get the temp down to 40C max idle and 55C max gaming, then re-seat the cpu cooler (Google it). If that doesn't work, then get a better cpu cooler - one that will fit in your case and not interfere with your ram.

Check its % usage in Task Manager when you're gaming. If it's at or near 100% then it's your bottleneck.

It should turbo to 3.3GHz under load per http://ark.intel.com/products/37150/Intel-Core-i7-950-Processor-8M-Cache-3_06-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI
Does it?

terraflavorx,
any follow ups to your issue?

You are on a LGA1366 platform and for this day and age in high tech sapping apps and games, your systems weakest link would definitely have to be the CPU and the ram.

You can try overclocking your CPU to 3.6GHz while you can overclock your ram to 1600MHz as well to remove any/and or all bottlenecks in your system. Though I'm not making this as a end all be all solution. The architecture and platform is outdated and any money you spend on this system would be sinking almost immediately without a return - e.g: aftermarket cooler (although it can switch platforms to be recycled on a new build later on)

The temps you've stated is tell tale of a 130W cpu running on its stock cooler and is fine.

Google it
