Concept Idea - How plausible is it?

I've been thinking of an idea for a long time, a product that could actually find a market and make some changes to PC gaming.

My idea comes from Razers no concept for a modular desktop PC. While this works fine it is still large and expensive and it got me thinking. Why not have a modular laptop? That could be used as a desktop.

The idea itself is simple, the screen is modular and detachable held on with clamps similar to how a battery is held on. It can be detaches and will probably have something like a stand on the back that pops out or folds out. and then a simple cable connects them, so the keyboard part of the laptop becomes a movable adjustable keyboard and houses the components. Allows for a comfortable desk position. Then it becomes an easy desk PC, plug in a mouse and your good to go.

Going one step further I was thinking the front part of the laptop base (where the trackpad is located) could also be removed to transform it into just a keyboard making it feel natural to use. That's where it would get tricky unless I got custom build boards and components which would be very expensive. In theory it would work with a modular screen to be removed and used freestanding. A connector that connects when the screen slots into it's position, and when it's taking off there is a DVI port on it (probably on the side that hides when connected to the base) and you just connect it with a cable.

It's an idea I am going to really try to take forward, get some money/funding to build a prototype and see what I can do with some DIY.

I get my idea from thinking back to the 70s when Apple came up with the idea for the all in one PC, display, keyboard and board(computer) in one box. Today we should have the All FOR One PC, a powerful desk PC that can be packed to a portable device with easy if your going on a trip. People today spend almost 3000 on a gaming desktop and up to another 2000 on a laptop. Most people can't even afford a 1000 desktop and no laptop like myself. We need a product for those people. And with it being modular, you can easily just use it on a large display at your desk, then pop on the laptop display for when going on a trip.

I can't picture what you are talking about really, but what you are looking to do already exists in the shape of laptop docking stations and monitors. Click in the laptop to a dock and you have your keyboard/mouse/monitor setup.

And there is no way to make a desktop case portable enough for anyone to want to carry it like a laptop with a screen attached to it.
