I am trying to share my internet through my laptop to my desktop via a switch. I have done this before BY ACCIDENT and it worked fine. But now the desktop(different from first time) just shows a yellow sign next to the internet icon and when troubleshooting says IP Helper is not working. tried as administrator and just says it is not running.

My laptop is on the internet via Wi-Fi and i am using the ethernet port to connect to desktop via switch. I am having trouble figuring out how i accomplished this before. The network drivers on both computers are up to date

Laptop: HP Elitebook 8440p
Desktop: Dell Optiplex 760

Please help

If you are not directly connected to the modem/router on the desktop - you need to setup IP configuration between the two computers manually (assign one as 192.168.0.101 and the other one 192.168.0.102 as an example). This will allow you to create a "network" between the two.

The TCP/IPv4 item on the desktop does not give the option for Properties to do this. Only TCP/IPv6

You have to manually assign them - what operating system are you using?

Windows 7 Ultimate. I understand the manual assign. However the desktop does not give the option for properties for the TCP/IPv4. Which i need to access the IP config

That is strange.....Something may be amiss with your adapter install and/or Windows supporting files.
