Get a water cooler such as the H100i or H105 and you don't really need an i7 for gaming but seeing the rest of your build I take it that you're looking to spend as much as possible for overkills sake.

On that note get an SSD as well.

I mean, not really. I'm just trying to get the best possible rig i can for gaming. Would i be better off with an i7-4790k and corresponding mobo? the crucial mx100 is a SSD

Oh my bad didn't see that SSD. Well considering the mobo you have selected would only house the new DDR4 and you DRR3 slected you have to make a change. Either get a Z97 mobo and older gen intel chip or get DDR4.

The MX100 isn't really a good choice for gaming, you want at minimum a Samsung 840 Evo or better would be the 850 Pro. But for gaming the 5930K is ridiculous overkill, you want at least a i5-4690K or i7-4790K.

What is your budget? If you post that we can suggest a rig.

My budget is 2850-2900 for everything including mouse/keyboard monitor but excluding those 3 i have about 2400$ left to spend on the actual rig. But if i could get a better rig i could get a less expensive mouse/keyboard/monitor so i guess my budget for the actual rig would be anywhere from 2400-2600

Update: also, if everything could be from amazon that would be great, i have an amazon prime account and the free two day shipping would be amazing.

The case you have selected is huge you will no issue with space at all you could fit a water cooler into a midsized case easily. I personally have the H105 in my NZXT H440.

So what do you want to do? Change your mobo and CPU so you can keep the DDR3 RAM or get the new DDR4. But as g-unit1111 said its way way overkill.

This will be the first desktop i have ever built. What i have listed was a build i put together from advice i got on the forums earlier today. I am willing to change everything there, i just want the optimal gaming build. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. I'm so new to this and confused and i don't know what i need to buy. All i know for sure is that i want the case monitor mouse and keyboard i listed. And if everything could come from amazon that would be an added bonus. My total budget is about 2900$ for everything and frankly i could care less about anything besides gaming. I want to build a computer that can play current and future content (for at least 2-3 years into the future) at absolute max settings and max fps (within reason). I'm pretty lost right now, ive heard so much different advice from so many different people and all the research i've been doing tends to contradict itself.
Update: Also, thank you for you help and input, it means a lot. Any advice you could give about a better build would be awesome

I have to agree with the previous respondents that the i7 will have a lot of unnecessary features in a purely gaming rig. The SSD is better than no SSD at all but, once again, I agree that there are some better options.

Really good to see that a first build with a better than decent PSU! What I usually see is "hey toms hardware, can I run my $2000 rig on this $30 dollar PSU? I like it because it runs on 2-stroke fuel and matches my colour scheme?"

PS. got some spare pocket money aye? :)

Alright well as far as gaming goes you will have no problem with your build outside of the RAM/mobo/CPU compatibility. You won't need DDR4 for gaming in any sense of the word the only reason you would want DDR4 would be for intense data processing, 3D modeling, or other things that you really wouldn't be doing. So I highly recommend going for a Z97 mobo and the 16gb of RAM you have there. You also don't need an i7 as it will only give you about 7-10 FPS more in some games but you can get one if you want to. As far as the SSD goes get a Samsung brand one.

Any of them will do I personally have the 840 EVO series but if you want the pro version go for it. As far performance goes you won't be able to tell the difference in load times between their SSDs however if you meant performance as in FPS you won't get any FPS improvement. SSDs are for your OS and big games with large loading times like BF4. For example when I got an SSD it took me about 10 seconds to load a map in BF4 vs the 3-5 minuets it used to take on a HDD.

This is the one I use

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MAXIMUS-VII-HERO-Motherboard...

but it doesn't really matter to much as you won't see to much of an improvement in FPS; in most games as little as a 2-3 FPS difference what you're really paying for is all the friendly BIOS options and the board looking all pretty and stuff. Although I really do like this board and pretty LEDs that I can see through the window of my case :)

So I highly recommend going for a Z97 mobo and the 16gb of RAM you have there. You also don't need an i7 as it will only give you about 7-10 FPS more in some games but you can get one if you want to. As far as the SSD goes get a Samsung brand one.

Any specific samsung SSDs you would recommend? How much should i get for the best gaming performance?

Any of them will do I personally have the 840 EVO series but if you want the pro version go for it. As far performance goes you won't be able to tell the difference in load times between their SSDs however if you meant performance as in FPS you won't get any FPS improvement. SSDs are for your OS and big games with large loading times like BF4. For example when I got an SSD it took me about 10 seconds to load a map in BF4 vs the 3-5 minuets it used to take on a HDD.

ok, cool. Any advice on the rest of the build? Other than the mobo/cpu/cooling unit

Nope you're golden. :)  have fun building it

One last question what z97 motherboard should i go with?

This is the one I use

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MAXIMUS-VII-HERO-Motherboard...

but it doesn't really matter to much as you won't see to much of an improvement in FPS; in most games as little as a 2-3 FPS difference what you're really paying for is all the friendly BIOS options and the board looking all pretty and stuff. Although I really do like this board and pretty LEDs that I can see through the window of my case :)

or are 2 SSDs overkill. i feel like one would be enough. Should i get 1 512 SSD and then another regular 2tb HD?

You can never have to much SSD lol ideally your whole PC would run on an SSD. But I wouldn't get 2 separate ones it would better to get one 1TB SSD. And yes it is a very good build.

Nice Build!

Only one comment. There are some people who are bothered by the poor colour reproduction from 144htz tn panel monitors relative to their LCD counterparts. BenQ have had some really positive reviews with their new Z series 144htz moniters with better colours than similarly priced tn panels.

Ahh ok, cool. What is the monitor called? Just BenQ Z series?

The qualities of monitors relate to what they are going to be used for coupled with the users preferences. Simply though.

144/120htz tn panel monitors provide a smoother gaming experience with lower input lag vs LCD 60htz. Pro gamers tend to use high htz moniters for the slight advantages they provide for high stakes matches. Heaps of the "run of the mill" gamers delude themselves that they are the new up and coming hot shit gamer pro and that they really need 144htz to properly reprezent their mad skillz. All jokes at their expense aside their is a noticeable difference between 60htz and 120/144htz when you are running a high end system.

But from a photographers/vedio editing perspective the colour reproduction from tn panels is dreadful. That being said the gap is closing and if you invest in a high quality 144htz tn monitor the colour reproduction is getting much better each year.

BenQ xl2720oz is the one I would recommend looking at.

I think I got the designation slightly wrong for the BenQ.

24in - XL2411Z or
XL2420Z
27in -XL2720Z

Priced from lowest to highest.

Quick decision. But its a really good choice. I've been wondering about upgrading to the 27in BenQ or an ultra-widescreen 29in IPS. (so the fact checkers don't try to eat my soul, when I said LCD 60htz I was referring to IPS panel monitors.

ps. chuck a solved on any of the replies so others can benefit from the thread.

I think you will find that your cooler will come with a tube of thermal compound thrown in. Wise to double check though.

I double checked, it doesnt come with any :(  Would you recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I personally went and bought a cheap thermal compound at Radio Shack and my CPU has an average of 28C. However I have read that the Arctic Cooling MX4 paste is the best.

My knowledge of aftermarket thermal compound is limited as I found little difference in performance between brands and honestly have never bothered to dig much deeper.
