Well I'm putting together a partlist for a friend of mine (who is looking into buying a pc) and I stumbled into a problem that I never knew the answer to? I might as well tell you the mobo: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A99FX_PRO_R20/
THe problem is that he doesn't have a wired connection in his room and needs a wireless card. This is a problem because the only pci 1x slot will be covered by the gpu? MY question is can I move the gpu to the next available pci-e slot? Would there be a performance hit because of this setup? Btw I know he can get a usb wireless adapter but I've seen shaky reviews and I personally have a pci-e 1x card that works extremely well.

the motherboard has two PCIe 16x slots that run on 16x mode (blue) and two that run in 4x mode (black).

in addition you can plug a PCIe 1x card into a PCIe 16x slot

The two blue PCI-E x16 slots both operate at full speed. You should be able to use either one of these.

Unless I'm mistaken, the two black PCI-Ex16 slots are the x4 slots. Install the PCI-Ex1 wireless card into one of these.
