Hello,

I am an architecture student who recently built a computer to use for my studies (3d modeling, rendering, Adobe suite programs...no gaming). This is my first build and I don't have a whole lot of experience with this sort of thing. My build is as follows:

CPU: i7 4790k @ Stock Speeds
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97x-SLI
GPU: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 760
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
PSU: SeaSonic G-750 SSR-750RM 750W
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120M
Case: Rosewill Legacy QT01-B
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I currently have my fans rigged as such: Two 120mm intakes on the front, 120mm exhaust on the bottom, and the CPU cooler radiator attached to the rear exhaust with the fan attached to it pushing out. I initially had a Hyper 212 EVO, but that cooler was too tall for my case.

I have reconfigured the water cooler twice (including re-thermal pasting using the pea method and rearranging of the radiator and fan) and my computer peaks at the low 90's when rendering. My computer idles around the low 30s with the ambient temperature around the high 20s. I am using HWiNFO64 to check my temps.

I tried to stress test using Prime95 Small FFTs and my core temps immediately shot up to the high 90s occasionally touching 100c. I haven't let it run for longer than a 30 seconds or so because this doesn't seem right.

I am assuming that this is a problem due to my assembly of the rig. I know that water cooling setups generally utilize top fans to exhaust. I don't have this option, but I experience these high temps even when both side panels are off my case. I have the radiator fan hooked up to the CPU fan header and the pump hooked up to the CPU_OPT header. I configured the CPU_OPT header to run at 100% in my BIOS. The fan is also super loud compared to when I had the Hyper 212 EVO in my setup.

Any ideas on why I am getting these temps?

Thanks for writing back.
Pump is running at about 1400. At idle, the fan is around 1100 and when rendering it will get up to 2300

I've been using HWiNFO64 to measure temps. When I'm in the BIOS, I generally get a CPU temp in the high 40s. As I mentioned, I'm fairly new to these issues, is there a different way I should be checking this?

I haven't overclocked. Vcore is at 1.416

Yeah, I've bee using the HWInfo sensors report.

The Vcore reading I gave you was from the BIOS. This is probably a trivial question, but is there a way to utilize bios/uefi software while windows is booted?

I haven't messed around with any of that stuff, but for some reason its running as fast as 4.4 with a multiplier of 44

Did you mean the System Information Viewer? When rendering (the same scene I have for every test I've done) that gave me readings that were into the mid 70s.

When I downloaded and opened Easy Tune for the first time, it was defaulted to "1Core 4.40 GHz." Could this be why my processor is running above stock speeds?

Would it be risky to keep the settings where they are? I wouldn't mind the extra speed if temps into the mid 70s are not concerning.

"You said 1.416V !!!" lol no kidding. Do you have the right bios?
