So i upgraded from a 4870x2 to a 290x and there is literally no difference in gameplay. Low fps drops and i dont even get over 80fps. It might have something to do with the fact it hasnt gone over 50 degrees and ccc says says the clock speed is around 750mhz most the time when it should be higher than that obviously. It is in the performance bios setting. I have 14.7 drivers installed and i tried 5 different games. I just want to use this card to its full potential... please someone throw me some knowledge.
Windows 7 (64bit)
Asus Sabetooth 990fx (r1)
Asus r9 290x directcu ii
Cooler master silentpro 620w
Amd zambezi 8120
8g G skill ripjaws x
60g ssd boot drive
1tb seagate barracuda

You would have gotten away with a 620w from a reputable brand, as it stands you have a fairly shitty unit.

The 290 series are also know to have high power consumption spikes that wreck havok with such low rent crap units.

You need at least 650w unit from a solid brand if you are not overclocking - you WANT to overclock that cpu though - if you intend to make the gpu not sit half ass idle most of the time.

So 750w is what you should be looking at, and don't cheap out.

Interesting.... I thought it might have something to do with power. my brother has a corsair 750w that i can try.. any recommendations on my cpu overclock settings? I havent tried to OC because i still have the shit stock cooler.
