So I was given a computer with this motherboard:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/ite...

What's the highest APU i could upgrade to? I know it seems like an obvious question but i can't seem to find an answer and the manufacture's website hasn't really updated what this board can use. x.x

Can you look on the board and see what revision it is? It should be printed on there next to where it says Made in Taipei.

Depending on the revision, these are the highest supported CPUs.

Rev. 1 and Rev. 1.2 - Up to A10-6800K

Rev. 3 - Up to A10-7850K

Some CPU models may require a BIOS update to be supported so it kind of depends on either what BIOS you have in there now or if the system runs you can update to the most recent BIOS for the most current CPU support prior to upgrading the CPU.

I can't get to the motherboard at the moment but the Box had said revision 3.

Then the A10-7850K would be the highest supported CPU for that board.

I'm sorry, I meant to say CPU not necessarily APU. I'm going to be using another GPU anyway so I'd rather the best performing CPU.

Same difference. Their both on the same die. As far as CPU only the Athlon X4 760k would be the best.

Here is the cpu support page which also has the necessary BIOS version needed to support each CPU listed to the far right:

Hmm, okay. They seem all pretty close, which of those three would you recommend just as far as the CPU goes? Price aside.

You should know that the two CPUs are the same cpu, the X4 just has the integrated graphics disabled from the factory. Also, the A10-6800k is cheaper and has about the same performance as both those. If you use a dedicated card you can disable the iGPU anyhow so it doesn't really matter which way you go, go with whichever is cheaper. The APU supports PCI 3.0 though while the X4 has only PCI 2.0 support, which probably won't affect anything you do anyhow.
