Install new drive

I have purchased a WD(Red) 3.0TB HD to expand my library of PC stored video files the drive is visible in Bios showing 0.0GB but is not visible at all in windows - how can I format and use this drive? (or have I made a serious error buying this type of drive?) I am usig win7 64bit.

Go into Control Panel, Disk Management.

Make sure its plugged in properly to the power supply and the data cable is in properly each end.

If theres an unallocated entry in disk management, you have to format it before you can use it

But it shouldnt be showing as 0.00 in the BIOS. See if theres a BIOS update that fixes this. One reason why its showing nothing is the BIOS may not support 3 TB. Until you update it

Depending on what this mobo is. And how old it is

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions after a lot of trial and error I eventually gave up and sent the drive back to the supplier - they have now confirmed the drive is faulty and have sent a replacement - this was immediately visible and so could initialize changing MBR to GPT and partition - max partition now shows 2.72TB.
Thanks again all - just proves the wisdom of the old saying 'a stranger is just a friend you hav'nt met yet'!
