I'm trying to shave some of the cost off my new rig too bring the beast back into a reasonable budget.

My first victim of economy is the HDD. I've been reading some horror stories (in technological terms) of the insanely high failure rate of Samsung drives (more than 10 times the failure rate). Is this something that tom's hardware members have experienced. I do not see the point in the dollars saved if I'm gonna have to replace it in 18months.

Second is the SSD. Same Question.

Any Advise would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Yeah I'm pretty keen not to compromise the SSD (Samsung 840 EVO) in the build. I was hoping for the most reliable and cost effective HDD that the forum could recommend. What about within the two brands (Hitachis and WD)? Do you know of any scaling quality in their range?
