Hey people,
I just built my gaming desktop last weekend and am really happy. I have an i5-4690k, a pny gtx 780 3gb oc, 8gb ram, and an ssd+hdd. I just read up last night that the gtx 970 has released, which pisses me off because I just bought the 780 haha. So, my question is, would it be worth it to return my 780 to the manafacturer, wait like a week for my refund, then wait another week and a half for the 970 to arrive? I would be gpu less this whole time. Is the performance difference between the two significant enough for me to get the 970 or should I just stay the course? I know new tech is gonna keep coming out, so I can't keep chasing after the new shiny thing on the market. Btw im running my games on 1600x900 for at least the next year so any thoughts on that with regards to the gpu? thank!

The GTX970 is faster, but check some reviews before making a final decision: Google 'GTX970 review'. ;)
Obviously check closely into the cost of swapping cards, shipping can prove expensive and there may be restocking or administration fees attached to a return like this-assuming the vendor will permit one.
At that rez even my HD7950 can play top flight AAA titles at max settings (it's doing very nicely at 1080 with a shiny new i5 4690K to drive it ATM ;) ) so either card would totally dominate anything you can throw at it.
So I'll just say: Read the reviews and decide for yourself if the performance gain is worth the hassle, and possible expense.

at that resolution, you'll have high framerates with both cards anyway :D

thw did a review on the new cards and compared them with the 780 to but not normal 780... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-970-maxwell,3941-8.html
970 is quite close to 780ti, eg 4 fps off in bf4, but as they didn't include the 780 we don't know exactly how those compare.

the biggest advantage of the new maxwell cards is the over clocks ability!! they over clock like hell!! so a 970 with custom cooler or water can probably reach 980 stock levels...

-> I would return it and get a custom cooler 970 from ggigabyt or evga :D
