600W enough for GTX 970?

The answer will always be yes. Since I am running 780TI + extreme overclock and that(on 600). And 780ti draws more power then 970 so go for it. Don't be afraid.

If it's a decent 600w yes.

A GeForce GTX 970 needs 28 amps on the 12v rail and a 500 watt power supply and 2 - 6 pin PCIE power connections.

If your power supply meets these requirements it can run it.
