I'm planning on buying the new GTX 970, more specifically the MSI version. I know that it has better power consumption than its 700 series counterpart, but when I look at its specifications on MSI's website, it says that the power consumption is 148 Watts but the recommend PSU must be 500 watts.

I will get it with an i5 4670k, which has a power consumption of 84 Watts. I was planning on getting the Corsair RM 650 Watts, but don't know if it's overkill. I will plan on upgrading if the parts become obsolete but I'm almost certain that I won't do any multi-gpu configuration.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me.

Well for some reason in this forum corsair RM series is a dangerous product, it may kill your components.

The psu will not be overkill. That is because system load with OC on full load can get higher and 550w will be the least I'd look out for on such a system. 650w is good for more headroom, it'd be extremely safe and good investment for the future as well :)

Do you know if I can find a better PSU for a lower price? Right now, it's at 110€, which is about 140 dollars.

Try Xfx pro 650w or Seasonic s12ii 620w or antec 620w hcg, they're all high quality psu, should be cheaper than rm :)

Yeah very good for the future, when everything will consume less and less power (except AMD of course).

Okay maybe only for SLI you could get the 650W but you said you're probably not going to SLI (you don't need to anyway, unless you plan on 4k gaming or 3-monitors setup), so a 500 or 550W power supply is gonna be plenty if it's a gold+ efficiency one.
