If I want to add another stick of RAM to have more RAM does it need to be the SAME exact model?

So I am asking this because I have this right now:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

And I want to add these sticks of RAM that are almost identical except this one is a bit faster, I understand that since its a bit faster paired with a bit smaller speed RAM stick it wont be as fast but other than that is this upgrade doable?

Thanks!

More about : add stick ram ram exact model

It should be fine to do that. However you should install pairs only. Not doing so will do two things

1 the ram will run at the slowest speed
2 if you use high density ram like single sided 8gb or 16gb you might get errors in theory but I havent seen it happen

So I know about number one and am fine with it but what do you mean by number 2?

Im planning to install the 8gb (comes in two sticks) next with the 4gb one I already have, well that cause a problem?

Saw the Vipers you have now, but no others. Any time you mix packages of DRAM (even of the exact same model) it can be and often is problematic, even more so today as many manufacturers are using higher density memory ICs on their sticks. Best just to get a set of the full amount you want, if the old sticks will play with the new then it's a bonus, else you can sell them off or put in another rig
