I recently started having issues with my system as when I play any graphic intensive games, GPU (AMD 7970) overheats more than 80 degrees and system turns off automatically after like 20-25 minutes of game-play and does not turn on for like 15 mins. I've been using the card since 6 months but this problem is coming from past two weeks. I have changed nothing on the hardware side since I have build the system. Also when I tested the same card with another machine (not very high end) the max GPU core temperature goes not beyond 75 degrees even when graphic intensive games like BF4, Watchdogs, FIFA14 etc are played. Please find the troubleshooting details that I have tried so far,

-Current driver version is 14.10.1006-140417a-171099C. I have upgraded it from lower version but the issue was repro on previous driver too.
-I have the latest SBIOS and VBIOS.
-I have Antec GX700 types cabinet with 10 cooler fans including PSU and CPU. (2x 140 mm top fans and 5x120mm fans and two CPU + 1 PSU fan )
-I am not overclocking the GPU, the core and memory clocks are at default vaules.
-CPU core temperatures are normal (~50 degrees)
-Using it on Windows7x64 Ultimate.
- System is working fine until I start playing any games. With normal surfing and usage the issue doesn't occur.
- Issue is also repro with GPU CapsViewer demos if ran for sometime.

Also the automatic fan control of the GPU has stopped working with only driver installed. Previously it used to vary the speed according to the core temp. However it works with MSI Afterburner but it keeps the fan speed to the same percentage as the core temp. Also when I enable the Graphics Overdrive settings and set the manual fan control to 100% it works. I am suspecting this issue could be due to higher resource utilization. Please provide your comments and find my setup details below.

Yeah. It could be. But I have tried using the same applications (Battlefield 4, Watchdogs, FIFA14, GPU CapsViewer all OpenCL/GL demos). It was showing GPU usage as 99% but still the core temperature was not crossing 75 degrees. Also on my system the fan speed is updating automatically with MSI Afterburner. However its still not enough though.

Hello. I tried running AIDA stability stress test and the issue was reproduced on my system.
