I'm looking for a quiet but very good cooler, i considered the Swiftech h220x but am unable to find info on pump noise, if i replaced the stock fans with 2 Scythe GT 1150rpm fans i wouldn't want to be able to hear the pump over them. With that though i'm not sure it's possible even with the pump set at lower speed. I currently have an older x58 system and may decide to change the motherboard, cpu and ram soon but am not completely sure yet. But i've been using a Swiftech 320 Drive for years and the pump on it is just too loud for my liking and don't want to use it for much longer for that reason.

Would an air cooler like the Noctua NHD15 be a better option for silence, performance and simplicity? Really not sure what to go for.. so some advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Water coolers perform well, but they are loud in doing so.
If you want silence use a big air cooler like the NH-d15 you listed.

What you need to ask yourself is, "what do I plan to do in the future and what kind of performance do I want?" Yes, the pump and fans do create noise, but in most closed case configurations you really won't hear much. These kits perform better than any air cooler and they offer the ability to be expanded later on, if you wish to add more components to the loop. I hope this helps to answer your question.
