I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 running Windows 8. Recently I am getting slow download speeds of about 0.3 to 0.5 Mbps. I am on Sky broadband. If I check the broadband speed using a speed checker I get about 14Mbps. I have recently installed a SSD and have had driver problems prior to that and have used Driver Detective to update drivers. I had problems with the Bluetooth drivers but that is now resolved.

Third party driver update programs are the bane of existence, of not use them as they often try to batch install drivers and cause more problems. Are the downloads from different sources? The speed check is an ideal situation with a closest possible, minimum loaded server. Real day to day performance varies. Try downloading something from a better host like google or youtube.

Also, try download over ethernet to make sure its not wifi interference.

Tank you for your reply.
The downloads are from different sources.
I have connected to the router with an ethernet cable and tested the broadband speed with a checker and the speed was ok at 13Mbps and upload at 2.5Mbps. However, when I download a test file I get a speed of 0.3 to 0.5Mbps.
I have channged my wifi channel after checking which channel was unused locally and I am still getting slow speeds.
Thanks, Paul

So downloading anything over ethernet is slow? Does it happen on other computers connected to the same network?
