Hey there guys,
I am using my custom home-built PC, and it's been running slow for a little while now, and finally, I cracked and am trying to figure out why. It was beginning to run slow after a bit of bad memory was taken out.

Intel i5 3570k @ 3.40GHz
XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870
2 Sticks of 4GB RAM
ATAPI iHAS124 W ATA
ST500DM002-1BD143
MSI Motherboard - unknown model - Someway to check?

I appreciate any and all reasons why, as it is now causing my games to chug on frames. Hard Disk Drive is 500GB running at 7200RPM.

I ran sysfile check on here last night. Corrupt files, no way of fixing. Gonna restore tonight or tomorrow.
Update - FIXED
Issue was corrupt files. Fixed it Right up. So glad for all your help. And Jasonite, it was bad RAM, but was eventually replaced. It's all sorted now, as I am experiencing no lag, after a complete format of my computer.

When you say bad memory what do you mean? You changed and got new ram sticks? You have bad sectors on your HDD? If you've gotten new ram you shouldn't have a prob unless it was much slower-clocked than your previous ram, and bad sectors wouldn't cause frame rates to slow down.

Typically I first see if I have too many windows services or TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs running. Anti-virus can slow things down if it's trying to do something while you're running a game. If you do have corrupted system files, and if a restore point doesn't work, then back up all your data and reinstall Windows from the DVD you hopefully kept. If I do that I prefer to format the hard drive too, so it's a clean install.
