So I am putting together a new system and recently figured out what direction I want to go in, so I am either going to get, 2 GTX970's buying one now for my setup and then another one in a few months.

or ill get a GTX980 what would be the better option ? I do use 3 monitors so I would think that having two cards in SLI would be the better option.

More about : gtx970 sli gtx980

If one card will do the job, I would go that way.
If nothing else, it preserves your option to go dual cards later.
A single card avoids some dual card issues.

But... if your plans include a 4k monitor or triple monitor gaming(not game on one with two side monitors) then sli GTX970 will be needed.

Thanks guys :)  for now im still saving up a bit, but could I install a GTX 970 on a system with 450W PSU just till I buy the rest if my new setup or will it not work at all in that situation and is there any risk involved doing that ? I know the advised minimum is 500W..

If your psu is of decent quality and has 2 6 pin pcie connectors, you should have no problem.
If your psu is crap, buy a new one asap.

If you are short of power, the first symptoms I might expects is display artifacts.

I would expect no damage unless you have a cheap psu without sufficient overload protection.
If a cheap psu blows under load, it can destroy anything it is connected to

Your PSU has 1 - 20 amp and 1 - 18 amp 12V +rails , so you should be able to run the 970 till you can upgrade.

It does not however have 2 6-pin connectors coming out of it just the 1, but I also have A molex -> 6-pin cable laying around, would I be able to use that to connect the 970 till I upgrade to my new PSU.

Btw this is the build im working towards, any advise on that http://pcpartpicker.com/user/SaintReborn/saved/hJNYcf

I would wait to run the card till you get a PSU with the proper PCIE power connections.

Don't use an adapter with that card.

That EVGA PSU that I put in the pcpart list will that be sufficient for 2 of these cards in the future ? I can buy that and the 970 coming week, to solve my power problems.

That is great, do you think the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0, is worth its 20 euro's more in price compared to the normal EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX. Because the release is only a few days away, I mean considering i am keeping the setup for the next 2-3 years waiting an extra week is not to bad.
