Hello! So TIFU by storing all my raid configuration information on my laptop. And not backing it up anywhere else. This is my first go-round with RAID 5, and I'm not sure what my options are in my current predicament. Basically I disassembled my PC(Her name is Kurzweil) to put in new water cooling toys and because of some GPU water block issues(don't even ask unless you want a serious rant), it lay in pieces for a few months. During that time my laptop HD failed and I lost all my configuration data for Kurzweil. Now she's back up and running, but I have no idea what the drive order was for the secondary RAID 5.

MOBO - Z87 OC Formula

What should I do and not do to avoid losing data while reconfiguring?

You should make images of all the drives first. Second you should go and learn how to use software tools to do logical recovery on RAID5 and only attempt recovery from the images.
Third, if you mess up and can't recover the data, look for a professional data recovery lab and be prepared to spend at least $500 per drive.
