How to improve sound quality?

I'm currently using an a88x mobo with a Realtek® ALC892 codec and a pair of Auvio earbuds (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2...)

What can I do to improve my music and game sound quality? I know there's plenty room for improvement. Good quality headphones and a DAC? I have no experience with USB soundcards either.

What are my options? I have a $150 budget.

I have these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168..., and they are amazing. I can walk around my house and almost out to the street without them disconnecting. They have virtual 7.1 surround sound, which is very nice, I am using them right now. Only thing I have ever had a problem with is sometimes I get interference from my wireless, which is also 2.4Ghz frequency. But as long as you aren't close to any other 2.4Ghz devices you are fine. However if the wireless doesn't appeal there is a corded option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=26-104-...

Get an ALC1150 mobo eg ASRock FM2A88X Extreme 6 ($90 at Newegg)
or a sound card eg Sound Blaster Z ($100 at Newegg)
plus proper headphones eg Plantronics Gamecon 780 ($80 at Newegg)

Sound cards won't make any noticeable difference unless you are shelling out enough for a really nice sound card and you actually have a surround sound system.

I have a mini ITX board. No room for a sound card. I'm also not going to replace my motherboard >_< for a slight codec improvement. Thanks for the headphone recommendations guys.

Would an additional USB sound-card, on top of those Logitech headphones, offer any additional improvement?

I don't have any experience with sound cards, but I have read on here that they offer no noticeable improvement unless you shell out the money for a nice sound card AND you have a nice stereo system. The sound cards will most likely not make any difference for headphone use. Especially because those Logitech headphones are not true surround sound, they are emulated surround sound. The surround sound mode does sound fantastic and the surround sound does emulate 7 directional channels, along with a subwoofer channel. Even the stereo mode sounds great, but a sound card will not make any noticeable difference for headphones.
