Hey guys I just wanted to ask if the R9 280X ( XFX Double Dissipation model) really needs a 750 Watt PSU as mentioned on their website?

I currently have a Corsair CX500 watt PSU. Is it enough or will I need to upgrade my PSU as well?

A Radeon R9-280X needs 30 amps on the 12v + rail and a 550 watt power supply with 1 - 6 pin PCIE and 1 - 8 pin PCIE power connections.

So does my PSU cut it or do I have to get a new one ?

I would upgrade to a better power supply , the CX SERIES from Corsair uses poor capacitors.

It would run the card , but may fail sooner than later.

So if I would go for something like a GTX 970 which needs a minimum of 500 watts would be fine ? Also If I were to upgrade my PSU which specific model would you recommend ?

Sorry to bother you again but what about the R9 285? Does it consume less power? It says 190 Watt TDP instead of the 250W TDP of the 280X
