Current best 27" monitor - buy now or wait a few months?

I'm buying a new monitor and am having trouble deciding between 1440 and 4k.
I hope to spend $500 but can stretch a few hundred more if it's truly worth it.

I don't want to buy something that will be outdated soon, but I don't want to buy into an expensive technology when it's still young and has growing to do. I could live with waiting a few months. I'm looking at the Dell U2713HM or the ASUS PB278Q, but these are almost a couple years old already and I'm wondering if they're on their way to being outdated in the next couple years.

I'm a software developer and spent 10-14 hrs a day at the computer. I also do graphic art. Some gaming, but not the types of games requiring lightning response times. Clarity is more important.

I have an Nvidia Quadro K1100M that will support either resolution.

I'd love to hear your advice, and also any references to good "Best Monitor" reviews that incorporate the newer technology. (Some reviews are a bit outdated.)

Thanks!

Thanks. You'd go with LPS over IPS?

But what I am asking is actually whether I should get one of those 2, VERSUS:

- A new 4k one (whether that's 4k now or 4k in a few months)
- Another technology of 1440 (in another thread, someone said "Asus or BenQ G-sync 2560x1440 monitors coming out Q2 or Q3 this year")

Thanks!
