My Gateway ZX6971 swallowed a DVD that I put in. I thought the DVD was fully seated, but apparently it was not since it seemed to go in separately from the DVD drawer and will not come out. How do I get it out?

There should be a very small pin hole beneath the dvd tray itself... Use a paperclip.. or a thumbnail and try to eject it. Try that.

^And if that dosent work, you can always unscrew the metal shroud and physically take the unit apart.

Hi -
I was able to fix this myself. I was able to turn the power off and turn the computer upside down with the DVD drawer open and shook it. Then my child was able to grab an edge of the DVD disk and pull it out.

I'll be careful from now on when I put a disk in.

Thanks.

Next time your computer will swallow and digest your disk and it will give you s*** in return. :)
