Right now I am considering an upgrade from my Gigabyte Windforce 7970. I can sell it for $200, which would allow me to get a 970 for only an extra $150. I want the 970 not only because of the better performance, but also for the extra features such as shadowplay, physx and gsync. I also have the capability for crossfire, but I am not sure about frame-pacing and such. Ultimately, I just want the best gaming experience within a reasonable price. It would be very helpful to have feedback from anybody that has used crossfire recently, especially those with 7950/7970 or R9 280/280X.

I dont think I have ever recommended one single card so much in one day.
Get the 970, its such a powerful card and has an exceptional performance to price ratio: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_970_SC_ACX_...

If The features are important to you then without question get the 970, otherwise xfire might give you better performance but I would probably upgrade still for solid single gpu performance with more vram

A 970 sli is on par with an r9 295x2, and an r9 295x2 destroys a radeon 7990 (a radeon 7970 cf isn't as good as a 7990) so yea

You didn't mention your other specs. Depending on your PSU, you may not even have the power to CF, and depending on your case and cooling, heat may be a concern. I think the 970 is definitely the way to go.

(Either that or OC the 7970, lower some settings, and wait out the market until the 7970 is no fun)

I would believe you would be best served by getting a 4GB version of the GTX-970. If you get a 4K monitor at some point, that card will drive it well.
