Wired Connection from upstairs to downstairs

Hello,

I am currently building a gaming desktop. I want to have wired connection to the internet. My modem is upstairs, and the PC will be downstairs. I do not want to run an Ethernet cable through the house to get connection downstairs. Would I be able to link the modem to the router using wireless, then using the router as a wired access point? Or what would the best way to accomplish this be? (without just running a LAN cable through the house).
Thanks!

Yes, as bill001g said, a Wireless Repeater (aka Wireless Range Extender) like this one (using it as an example only, no research on specifications at all) has an Ethernet port at the bottom, you can plug it near your PC and use an Ethernet cord to connect from it to your PC. The Wireless Repeater will basically be your NIC (aka Network Card).

I personally think that this is not a smart idea, because Wireless Repeaters tend to drop and (most of them) are not designed for gaming. The best way is to buy and install a NIC in your computer since you build your own.

If you do not want to physically run an Ethernet cable through the house, which I can totally understand, but still want good internet, I would suggest you to invest in a...

If your modem is wireless, you can link it to another wireless router downstairs and just run an ethernet cable off the 2nd router and use it as an access point. That's the easiest way. Or just get a wireless USB dongle and connect directly to the modem upstairs.

The modem i have is a wireless modem/router. So i should be able to connect the modem to the other router through wireless connection then use the router as a wired access point?

I would use powerline network devices.

Anything that has a wireless connection in the middle is not a wired connection to the internet. If your goal is to get stable gaming it does not really really matter what it physically appears to be to your computer. If there is wireless in the path you will get random packet loss and random delays which will have a impact on games.

Now if you main concern is you just want connectivity to your PC and all you have is a ethernet port on your machine then you can use what is called a client-bridge. Many range extenders/repeaters can do this function but they make specilized device called media adapters that are used to connect tv or game consoles that do not have built wireless only ethernet

It will be much easier and cheaper to buy a USB nic card if you only goal is to get a connection to the main router.

It all depends what you really mean by "wired connection"

Do you have a link to an example of device i would use?
Basically i want a LAN Cable to plug into the back of my desktop without having to run it from upstairs to downstairs. I don't want to game on wifi.
I guess let's answer the first question.
Can a Wireless Modem/Router combo be linked to another Router through wireless?

Let me know if you have anymore questions! :)
