Hello.
I have RT-AC68U (connected to ISP via Ethernet) and RT-N66U (in a repeater mode, connected to the main router via wireless). The purpose of this setup is to extend wireless signal to other rooms (there is no way to get any cable there).
When I set up the repeater it only finds 2,4ghz networks in the wireless networks list even though AC68U is clearly running 5Ghz network.
My questions are:
1. Would it be better to connect repeater via 5g and if so - how?
2. Should I be using same SSID for both 2.4 and 5 networks or it doesn't matter?
3. Do I need to adjust channels for both routers somehow?

If you are going to repeat the signal then it would be best to connect the two routers together using the 5ghz signal (if the signal is strong enough) and use the 2.4Ghz for clients. If you do this then on the 5ghz, both have to be on the same channel and SSID. On the 2.4Ghz (which your client devices will attach to) you need each router on a different channel, but they can have the same SSID if you want (but different than the 5ghz SSID). On the 2.4Ghz band only use channels 1, 6, or 11 and make sure your channel width is set to 20mhz.

Thank you! Did this! The child router now shows 360-450mbps link rate which is great. However, it looks like it looses the 5g link from time to time. I've experienced this problem earlier when rt-n66u was the only router - it's 5g network was never reliable. Sometimes it didn't show up at all, sometimes couldn't connect and sometimes there was no internet when connected, so I stopped using it. Can something be done to fix this? The 5g networks are now both set on 40mhz and channel 40 with the same ssid.

Had to switch both routers to Merlin firmware, reset couple of times and it worked like you advised in the end.
