hey everyone, I have the opportunity to exchange my 780 dual classified for a 980 (im within return policy)...so seeing as I do not use any other bios with my 780 and dont care to, I do appreciate it has a faster speed clock and memory clock.

what are my advantages of waiting for the classified again, vs getting the SC w axc thats out now, or even the ftw that is slightly faster? any at all?

OR am i better off just buying another 780 and SLI-ing it. Which i was planning on doing anyways if i got the 980 in the near future. should I go with the newer 980?

Though sold out, don't get the ACX that was just released. The heat sink doesn't make full contact with the board, resulting in a card that's quite a bit hotter than the competition.
Even then, the 980 isn't that much of an upgrade from a 780. SLI would be a much better solution.

Better yet, let's see what AMD has to spew out with the 300 series.

but if i plan to SLI another 980 in the near future?

I was planning on getting the acx 2.0 when it is back in stock, but they do have the dual classified 780 in stock on amazon for $500.

should I wait for restock of acx 2.0 or wait for classified 980 in near future. I hate to not have updated hardware for down the road especially if i am within return policy. is the 8gb worth it vs 6gb when SLI

Get the GTX 980 it's newer hardware uses less power and has newer software features. Plus you being within your warranty period adds a nice incentive. Then later on if you so wish you can get another 980 and blow any game out of the water. Keep in mind that the current drivers for these cards are new and will only improve with time.

On second thought, getting a 980 wouldn't be bad at all.
What resolution you game at?

I may jsut be out of neweggs warranty now that i look :(  with that said the step up program only has the ACX 2.0 but nothing overclocked, i wanted to at least get the superclocked w acx 2.0...should I call EVGA in the morning and see what strings they can pull?

ya but crap they only have the ACX 2.0 version, no superclocked. I called EVGA and they said they only do the base 980's for step - up. whats my chances of getting the unit and selling it brand new on ebay and upgrading to the superclock? or waste of my time..

Where did you get this info from? I've been looking for temperature data. I just purchased the non ACX super clocked EVGA (1342 MHz boost, only a small step down from ACX boost of 1367 MHz), and I am wondering how the reference card designed cooling will hold up. I can't imagine EVGA wouldn't have tested this, but I've seen no independent data.
