I just had windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) installed and the memory increased from 1Gb to 2Gb. the 2 GB is ddr2 pc2-4200 and is working fine but I feel that 4 GB would be better. Just tried to install 4 GB and the modules didn't work. the motherboard is a Asus M2N68-LA (narra5) is there a jumper or something like that that needs to be set so the motherboard recognizes the higher ram?

What is the model number of your CPU? There are specific limitations for memory support on that board which is dependent on the cpu installed.

The CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 4000. That's what is on the front of the case. The research that I have done indicates that this particular board can take up 4GB's. Is this right?

According to the Compaq and Asus websites, yes. What are the specs on the memory you are trying to install. Perhaps it is unsupported memory according to brand, speed, timings or possibly be EEC memory which is not supported. Do you have a model number for the modules you are trying to install and are they identical or mix/match modules?
