Multiple RAID arrays on Asus Z87 Deluxe/Z97 Deluxe

Is it possible to set up 2 different RAID arrays on the Asus Z87 Deluxe or Z97 Deluxe motherboards? I am considering the following setup:

2 x SSDs in a RAID0 setup for OS/Programs
6 x spindle drives in a RAID10 setup for data

Can these motherboards support 8 drives in 2 different RAID arrays or do I need to get a hardware RAID controller card to make this happen?

Thanks.

Are there any Z97 boards (non-Asus then) that do support 8 drives and in 2 RAID sets?

There's a couple, the pick of the bunch for me would be the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7

It has a Marvell RAID controller for 2 ports supporting RAID 0, 1 and the other 6 hang from the chipset and give you RAID-10 with your 6 drives.

Note if you're using all 8 ports you won't be able to use SATA-Express or M2 as they also hang off the chipset, you would be limited to using 4 drives on the chipset.

I have always been an Asus follower so Gigabyte or any other Mobo would be out of my comfort zone. However I will do it given that it will give me the desired functionality. I looked at the specs of the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming on the site and wow - impressive! It makes the Z97 Deluxe look like an entry level card. I am not sure if the Gigabyte has the phased cooling cycles that the Z97 Deluxe has but the other features seem to be quite impressive. How does it compare in those areas?

My challenge on the Gigabyte too is that it is hard to differentiate the hierarchy of the Gigabyte cards between its respective models. Is the Gaming version of this motherboard the king of the Gigabyte Z97 hill or are there better cards in its lineup? Any direction here would be appreciated.
