I recently overclocked my i5 3570K to 4.4GH with 1.152v with high LLC, the thing is when i have tested my OC in prime95; the range of the VCore readings were from 1.144 to 1.168 with 79 C as a maximum temperature , but when i play games like battlefield 4 or crysis 3 i get a static reading of 1.173 with 73 C as a maximum temperature.
My question here is, why do VCore need more voltages in games more than the prime 95 torture test, and how does it give less temperatures with more voltages?

Thanks.

What's happened is prime95 is running all the cores at the settings you entered into the BIOS. The game is running less cores in turbo mode and upping the voltage slightly to clock them higher. The temps are lower because games are less work than prime95

It could purely be a motherboard oddity.

There is no reason why a game would apply more voltage.
If you would like to minimize fluctuations in voltages so that it remains closer to your 1.152v set voltage, then you can play around with LLC,depending on your motherboard I can try and give you some tips.

As for your chip and voltage at that overclock, its pretty low and a very solid overclock, you have no reason to worry about it.

Thanks for the replies.
I have p8 z77-M MB and i really appreciate the professional tips here.

I am not THAT familiar with Asus Z77 boards, but from what I have heard and limited experience I have on them, you really should disable Turbo boost completely and also set LLC to 75% (very high).

OCing is constant testing, so give it a try and see how it goes.

Is ultra-high option (75%) available at 4.4 GH? because i tried it once with this freq. but it didn't even boot for the windows and i thought it's for "EXTREME" type of OC or something.
But why should i disable the turbo boost ?

Its a measure of control that you take into your own hands. It just works better with fixed voltage overclocking, whereas if you are using offset, then its better to use turbo boost.

Interesting that you could not boot in. You are probably too close to the minimum voltage for your CPU at 4.4GHz.

Yeah well, i use the offset mode.
But i have tested my voltage in prime 95 with high LLC for a whole day (blend test) with no crashes or errors what so ever.

Right, then tighten up your offset.

Prime95 is never a hundred percent test. No test is.

I wish i could :D  , i think my CPU is like "You've got to be sh*** me right now".

Because the temperatures in my country are so damn freaking HOT :fou: , by the way i am using antec kuhler 620 as a cooler for my CPU and i get temps near 80 s , that's why i am trying to get the best idea here.

If it peaks in the 80s for short times then you have nothing to worry about.
