How's it going gents, I've got a bit of a dilemma. I've made some plans to upgrade my PC and I'm not sure how much wattage my PSU should have. I've checked a few PSU calculators and am not comfortable with the results because they all said something drastically different from each other. I've also looked up "2x 770 SLI power requirements" and am still not comfortable enough to make a decision.

To start this off, I made this computer with a good friend of mine early last year. While I was ordering parts a week earlier, I had done very little research on the power supply. Only enough to know how much power I'd need for a couple of 6970's in crossfire. The power supply in question is the AZZA Dynamo 850. It was 750w when I bought it...not sure what happened. I've read up on this PSU recently and have come to find out that it's not reliable. I mean some peoples Dynamo 850's have actually exploded.

On topic, I have replaced the 6970 with a GTX 770 less than a year ago. I want to add another GTX 770 and maybe another SSD and that's where I need assistance. What would the best wattage be for a new PSU? If you would like to recommend a specific model, I'd prefer it to be 80% PLUS Platinum on Newegg and modular, price doesn't matter.

Here are my current specs (linked for your convenience):
AZZA Dynamo 850w
MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2
AMD FX-8350 @ 4Ghz
Enermax ETS-T40-VD CPU Cooler
GIGABYTE GTX 770 (2gb)
CORSAIR Vengeance LP 16GB (4x4gb) @ 1866 Mhz
Seagate Barracude (3TB HDD)
Seagate 600 Series (240GB SSD)

The specs are all linked in case you want to look up the parts and so you can get the best idea of what we're working with here.

Thank you for your time.

Yes that PSU indeed is low quality. You'd need 850W PSU for SLI. First off, any 850W PSU from EVGA/ XFX/ Antec/ SeaSonic (Modular versions) would do. There certainly isn't a need for Platinum rating until you use your system 24/7.

EVGA G2 850W is an excellent PSU:

Or if you must get Platinum, Corsair AX is great too:

The PC is on ~14 hours a day. Not sure if that's Platinum worthy, but I just wanted to be sure it would last a long time.

850w was just what I wanted to hear. I was looking at 900w before I made this post, though either will work. I think I'll go for that EVGA. That company's just good all around so why not.

I hope that people with similar questions come across this. Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate it.

14 Hours is fine with Gold, you'd want a Platinum with a server. Good choice with EVGA, its a GREAT PSU, glad to help :)
