Hello,

I have installed coolermaster 120XL. I have sorted out the stand off screws as recently it was giving me headache of no boot. So far the idle temp on my i7 4770k is around 35-40c and when using intel burn test. The max it can reach is up to 90c. When i use prime 95 and the max was 95c.That time it was not delidded.

This image below using prime 95 delid and it shows crazy temps.

The pump is connected to the cpu header and i have switched off the pwm mode. It now run full speed as it was supposed to be. The two fans are automatically controlled.

I have kept changing the voltage from 1.050 to 1.2 and the temp seem to be a problem at 4000ghz. I could not go further than that otherwise the heat would be mad.

Until then it drove me crazy and really pissed off why it wasnt performing the same as other people i7 4770k with the exact same cooler with max load at 70c <80c. Instead i opt for a delid cause i have been using this cpu almost one year without delid.

I use this pc mainly for rendering in vray, 3ds max, artlantis and i am an architecture student.

Since then i have delidded my i7 and i encountered 4 mistakes. One is i have barely removed the pcb layer on the top left corner a little bit south. And the bottom one is i have removed two pcb layer by tiny amount and i can see the gold thing there. It is on the triangle thing on bottom right. The reference is the picture with the pink tissue.

I use deepcool z5 from the die and the same for the heatspreader as a pea dot. As shown on this image below and u can see the mistakes i have done.

The temp is a great improvement though the bios detected it as new cpu installed. Average 35c until then the tim become to be heated and now it average 38-40c.

Computer booted fine and i redo my settings.

First setting was at 4000 ghz at 1.050volts and it bsod after IBT 1 tries.

Second Setting was at 4000ghz at 1.153volts and it bsod after IBT 3 tries.

Third setting was at 4000ghz at 1.170 volts and it froze after IBT 5 tries.

I have obviously voided the warrantly and i did alot of research on delidding though the vice and hammer is the best method but i dont have those right now as i am staying at uni campus. Instead i used a razor and carefully did things though i did not realize that i have destroyed the pcb layer by a teeny tiny hole. I guess i have to wait for broadwell cpu replacement in the coming future.

Here are the images i have done after delid. Computer never bsod when i set cahe to auto and cache voltage auto. If i input cache and cache voltage then who knows it will crash and freeze.

This image below using IBT.

This image below using Prime95.

What have i done wrong here? I need some help and i am literally lost with the voltage and the temp....

Thanks...

Looks like you had a poor chip or you were doing something wrong then you damaged it. There is no point getting advice in this if you delided wrongly its never going to work again, although its odd it works at all
