Hi guys, I am currently having a hard time deciding between getting a G1 Gaming GTX 980 or 2x EVGA GTX 970, the price for both is roughly the same but I haven't run sli before so I have multiple questions.
The SLI is definitely a better solution performance wise, no doubt about that but 980 is simple and easy solution on the other hand and seems enough for 1080p gaming (my current resolution).
My first question is can my 5 year old Corsair TX 750W PSU handle 2x GTX 970's? My current system is:
Asus Maximus VI Hero
i7 4770k (Not overclocked yet)
16gb dominator
5x SATA Hdds
1 bluray burner

Can I expect major problems drivers wise in games with sli? Also I have heard SLI'd cards produce significantly more heat, can it be a problem especially in a country like India which is EXTREMELY HOT 8/12 months a year. Finally how hard is to install sli physically?
I think with 970 SLI I will have a better chance of maxing The Witcher 3 @ 1080p then a single 980. That's the main purpose for upgradation.

yes its possible if you dont oc both the cards and processor and if you oc them keep the oc low if you are going for SLI just for 1080p then its a waste of money a single gtx 970 can max out any game even which are upcomming .

Ok so basically it means I can run sli but running almost at full capacity of the PSU. I don't think that would be a good idea on a 5 year old psu, I am also hearing what sounds like a current leaking/sparking noise inside my pc. I opened the case and checked thoroughly inside the case but couldn't pin point origin but my guess is its gotta be psu. Tried stopping all fans one by one but noise didn't stop.

Anyway, what about the heat issue, does running SLI produce significantly more heat then its normal temperature when ran alone?

okk then definitely change the PSU and now get a 850 watt PSU for SLI and yes SLI produce more heat than a single card but if you have good cooling inside your case that will not matter.

When I eventually pick up a 970, I intend to get the reference blower styled cooler. Because it cools well enough and a blower style cooler is leaps and bounds better then open air coolers in sli/crossfire situations. I tried to crossfire my 280x with my brothers in a Corsair Air540 with 2 140mm intake fans push/pull h100i on the top and an exhaust fan. The top card still heated up to 92c. Then again, thats a 280x and this card is a 970 but I dont make the same mistake twice lol.

Unfortunately I can't afford a new psu + 2x gtx 970 atm, I would have to wait another month for that which I don't want to since I was running 6950 crossfire but already sold 1 gpu on ebay this week and now I am only running single 6950 which is torture in games like BF4/Watch Dogs.
Also I will not do the same mistake and buy another cheap ass psu, I will be getting atleast a 1000W modular gold certified psu this time.
So what I have decided is to get GTX 980 for now and upgrade my psu next month. And when The Witcher 3 comes out (which is still good 5 month's away from release) and my pc can't max it out then buy another GTX 980 then and sli it. Now only if Gigabyte G1 GTX 980 (windforce edition) becomes available......

A single gtx 970 can maxed out witcher 3 at 1440 resolution so i dont think if you get a gtx 980 then you will be needing another one soon.

How do you know that? I haven't seen any official Witcher 3 specs yet and its widely accepted that this will be one of the most demanding game.
Hmm well maybe you could max it without using some super high demanding settings like uber sampling in TW2, who knows?

I know you won't be delighted to know but I have finally decided to buy a Corsair AX1200W PSU.
I know I know that's more then I will ever use probably but one of the problems of living in 3rd world countries is that you can't be picky. If I was living in the states I would have ordered HX850i with my eyes closed but it ain't available here. The only 750W/850W/1000W from corsair available are the RM series. You get some models here and there from other brands like the one I mentioned above (Silverstone Strider).
My whole day was spent today digging through review sites for the model I found and after spending 8 hours I said to myself screw this, I am getting AX1200W (PSU) which is available here. So what if its atleast $120 USD more then what I would probably need.

I would have never thought of changing my psu if it wasn't producing that annoying sparking sound. Corsair TX750W is fine for me but sadly EVEN TX series is no longer available here :/
