The r9 280 has 3gb of vram, and the r9 285 only has 2gb. The rest of the specs are pretty much identical. You can get the r9 280 for around $200, and the r9 285 is around $250. I would say the r9 280 is still the best bang for your buck though. I don't think the r9 285 is fast enough to justify the extra $50 honestly.
