Firstly, your CPU won't bottlenck any GPU. Secondly, 970 is significantly better than any GPU in its range, actually better than even 290, and 290X in some games! Feel free to go with the efficient and powerful 970

There is no real reason getting R9 280x anymore since GTX970 is on the market.

Plus, if you play at 1080p, the new downsample antialiasing feature looks promising for Nvidia 900 series.

FTW is basically higher clock than SC edition with some more features, both are great though you can't go wrong with either.
