Disappointed with 280X

While playing Metro 2033 Redux my 280X Dual-X stays in 100% load during all the gameplay and temps go all the way up to 77ºC, and i'm only getting 30-35 FPS. Also the CPU Usage stays in an average of 50% but has some peaks to 100%.

Specs:
Mobo: Asrock Z97 extreme4
CPU: i5-4690K
Case: Corsair 200R
GPU: Sapphire 280X Dual-X

Game settings.
Resolution: 1920x1080
Quality: Very high
SSAA: 2X
Texture Filter: AF 16X
Teselation: Normal
VSync: No

Is it normal that this game pulls my gpu to the limit?
Can 77ºC in my gpu during several hours damage it? I planned on btc mining, which is the max safe temp for this gpu that won't damage it (24/7)?
Is it normal to get such low FPS with this gpu running on 1920x1080 (they told me this gpu is overkill for 1920x1080)?
Are the CPU Usage peaks normal or should I worry about them?

Solution
Metro Last light is a pretty gpu intensive game, haven't tried the redux though that would just put even more pressure on the gpu because of updated graphics.
77ºC WON'T damage your gpu, it can take all the way up to 95ºC, though i would personally keep it under 85-90ºC.
Metro is a very gpu intensive game, you'll be able to play almost any other game at a higher FPS (maybe not Crysis 3).
You should easíly hit 60fps on very high in most of the titles out there.

Do you have PhysX enabled? This will also lower your FPS quite a bit since you're not using a Nvidia card, also PhysX is using your CPU to do the physics so that might explain the spikes you're seeing.

Played Metro LL with PhysX on my R9 290, got 25-45fps.
Played Metro LL...

Hope this was to some help :)

I don't have the redux version, but check if you have PHYSX turned on. If so, turn it off.

I think it is on by default... but when I accidentally turned it on, it dropped to like 9 or 10 FPS.

When I turned it off, 45fps. I'm on an overclocked 7970. 1200/1550.

The temps should be for gaming. I don't know about 24/7 though...

I can't comment on that game but for BF4 that GPU (I have same one) pulls 75% load and temps around 72C in a 25C room. My 2500k gets up to 80% usage too. You might be getting high temps cuz of case. The 200R looks great but runs much hotter than the 300R (which I have).

The 280x is meant for 1920x1080 gaming.

Do you have extra case fans? Are you using the intel cooler?

Not sure about the Redux version, but in the original Metro LL the PhysX option was in the Game not Graphics menu, a lot of people (yes, including me ;) ) didn't realise and found it playing like a very slow thing.
In treacle.
Not sure about the Redux version again, but in the original I found SSAA just made everything look a bit fuzzy as well as crippling the frame rate, try turning it off.

First of all, thanks for answering :D

Apparently, in the Game menu the "Advanced PhysX" checkbox wan't checked but I think it was activated internally because after checking it, restarting (still 30 FPS) , unchecking it and restarting again I got an average of 45 FPS.

Disabling SSAA didn't make much difference, like ~2 FPS more.

Also, I found some post stating that the Redux edition of metro 2033 is badly optimized, thus giving low frame rates (not sure if true or not).

The 200R is not that bad in terms of airflow and cooling, overall I feel like it being a good buy (despite being the lowest priced component in my rig).

About the max. safe temperature of that gpu in 24/7, googling I just found relative assumptions ("The max safe temp of my gpu is x so the max temp of that gpu should be y").

Selected NiCoM answer as the best because it's the most comprehensive.

I know this is an old post but was curious as to how you were able to 'disable' PHYSX settings in an R9 type card, every other post I've seen on this says there's no such thing in an AMD card.
