Wireless access point with a switch

I have Google Fiber (sorry guys!) and the network box isn't too strong on it in our small apartment but I was wondering if a wireless access point can feed through a switch? I'd rather run a switch to the back hallway and connect the AP to the switch so we can have either option in the back.

The AP I'm looking at is the D-Link DAP-1665

There is a sticky on this forum and it is all over the internet on how to make a router into a AP.

The vast majority of the router feature will not work when you use it as a AP. So fancy firewall or QoS options have no value. It is pretty much a inexpensive router that has the correct radio features. Like if you need 2.4g and 5g you want dual band. Or if you need 802.11ac.

You can do it the way you propose it is just a matter of costs, for some reason a AP which has less function than a router costs more more money many times and then in your case you are adding the cost of a small switch.

You would likely be better off using a router as a AP instead. The router would have the extra ports you want a switch for as well as the radios. You would just not use the router functions. They do make AP with multiple ports if you really want a real AP. Most times people that want actual AP is when they need PoE since many AP have that ability.

What type of router would be best? I haven't heard of using a router as an AP - would that make a second router you'd have to connect to?
