About to finish up my system build.

5960X Watercooled @ 4.5+GHZ
2x 980GTX Super Clock

Just have a question, I know I should be able to run a single 4K monitor without an issue on the curret setup but would adding 2 more 980 GTX SC in the future be enough to run surround 4K? Looking to run that setup once monitors drop in price a little more.

So basicly four 980s for three 4k monitors.

Also I know we should see even better performance with new drivers and significant improvements DX12 on the 980/970s... also with the multi core utilization (8 Core).

Thanks, but already have all that. Picked up my 5960x for $888... my MSI X99S Gamer 9 for 399 & XSPC RayStorm Block w/360 rad from my last setup.

My two 980s should be delivered today. System will be up and running tonight.

Just have my 24" 1920x1080 monitor at this point. Still waiting on 4K G-Sync monitors to be more common. Don't need four 980s to run that monitor, hell it's overkill with two. Will pick up more monitors when I get more 980s.

Actually it's overkill with one. :D

personally, if i was you, i would get 3 1440p monitors ORRRRR three of these absolute beauties: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-120-LG&groupid=17&catid=1120 that is 3440x1440 CURVED screen, 3 of those would be absolutely gorgeous, and would look amazing!

5MS response time though, but between 1-5 i personally cant tell a difference... but you may not be the same, but i think they will be better than 4k ;) plus all the 4k monitors are ugly this far, unless they are the super expensive ones... AND they arent curved, let me say that again, they arent curved ;) just get those, set it all up, inbox me some pics if you gaming on it so i can share the beauty :p

Thought about that one, actually did a cardboard cutout yesterday to see how it would feel on my desk. It's a good size compared to my 24". Three of those would be amazing. Desk is big enough.... hmmm...

I'm running 7680x1440 (3 27" 2560x1440 monitors) with 2 R9 290's in Crossfire. Even with the AA and AF settings turned down pretty far, I can easily be using all 4GB of the video ram available (even though each card has 4GB), and can barely get 60fps. This is in a racing game called Assetto Corsa, so your games may behave differently...

I think at your proposed 4KX3 (11520x2160), video ram may be an issue, especially with AA and AF, since you will still only have 4GB available..

Dont think you have enough juice to be powering 3 1440p monitors, and to be fair assetto corsa is really hard to run, but still, i think you would need at least dual 980s for smoothness reasons, but you could get tri to make sure...
Personally this setup would be sexy as fook, inbox me some pics when done, if you do it!

Well accoding to Nvidia the 980 supports triple 4K for games:
"In addition, Maxwell is the world's first GPU architecture to support HDMI 2.0, providing enough bandwidth to output 4K at 60Hz over HDMI. And beyond 4K, Maxwell can output simultaneously to multiple ultra HD-resolution screens. For gamers, that means three 4K G-SYNC panels in a Surround configuration, commonly referred to as 12K, and a forth HDMI-powered screen for watching Twitch. "

Guess that answers my question.

Not with that 4GB. Even in quad SLI you'll still have only 4GB. Im sure 3 monitor 4k will eat that up like nothing. Maybe if they come out with 6GB or 8GB then you might be on the money. Enjoy your 980s. I get my two Tomorrow :)

System is up and running! 8 Cores running stable at 4.5Ghz and will keep moving it up.

I am able to 25k+ in 3Dmark11 and 21K+ Firestrike - Amazing, Better than Titan Black SLI, Titan Z, and the 295X2. Still have room to work. Only running two cheap sticks of 4GB 2133 (Should be able to OC to 2600), not even quad channel. Next year I'll upgrade to Windows 10, M.2 X4 PCIE SSD, and hopefully 64GB+ of DDR4 3600+ along with two more 980 GTX cards. Should see a huge performance boost. I can already run every game out in 1920x1200 ultra with no problem.

Now I just need to decide on displays..... Thanks for the input.

Nice dude! I have 2 980 SC too and running a ROG Swift monitor. Thinking of going the x99 route right now for the more PCI lanes so when I get a 3 third card, it wont bottleneck. My goal will be by the end of the year to get 2 more ROG swift and 3 monitor that shit at 1440p!!@$! Oh man... gotta go clean my myself up...

Sweet set up and good luck!
