Hello,

So i did my first ever pc build in may (I'm 14) and i don't have any knowledge of building the pc. I did everything correct and it booted (it's a fine piece of ass) but lately it has started acting weird. The screen suddenly turns of, or the pc wont send any data to it. The fans starts spinning really fast and i'm worried it's going to explode everytime. I have to press inn the power on button to make it stop, which i hate. But when i thought a little bit more about the cause, i think it's because i took on too much thermal paste. I used arctic silver i think, but i'm not sure. It did go over the sides, but then i didn't dare to care, so I have left it be all this time. Do you guys think it could because of that? And are my whole motherboard ruined or do i just have to wipe it off?

If you see trace amounts of paste on the edge of the cpu that is fine, if it has spewed out onto the motherboard, then yes that is way too much paste. You want about as much paste as a grain of rice, spread to a very thin layer to coat the CPU.

Now with that said, a gross overage amount of cpu paste wont cause display issues. It could cause the CPU to reach high temps and shut off, but not display issues like you are describing.

And to answer your other quesiton, no your motherboard is not destroyed, you can just wipe it off. FYI depending on what metals are used in it the paste can be toxic so wash your hands very well whenever using it (or wear latex gloves).
