OK I'm looking to purchase a new graphics card tomorrow and the 290's are standing out to me at the time of this post. But which one? R9 290 or 290x?
And which ones do I go for a Asus or sapphire?
I will be moving to 4k but depending on which one I get will decide how long till I can play 4k properly. As I received a Asus 28inch 4k monitor as a present.
Do I get 290 for £250 and I only have to save up another £100 to get another one for 4k gaming. Or the 290x for £350 and save up another £300 for a second one is it really worth that extra £300?
It will take me a while to save up extra maybe £50 every month could be more but I enjoy my luxuries

Or if anyone has another response or a different graphics card I would love to hear about it along as it's in my budged :)
Currently running:
Asus z87 pro
16gb ram
H110 corsair cooler
I7 3770k
And corsair rm850 psu
With a full tower case.

Many thanks.

I would suggest the GTX 970 or 980 personally.

I would agree partly with NBSN, i personally have the 290 and i must say, top card, but if i could send it back and get anything i wanted for £300, i would recommend you go for the 290x sapphire tri x as its an insane card, and its basically a unlocked 290, and i personally think, the 290 is a beast, but if you want a cooler card and slightly better performance go for the 980x, but you will pay a premium for it, if i was you, get the 290, and lots of nice airflow in my case ie bigger case and more fans ;)  always helps... so yeah, overall, id say the sapphire tri x 290 and get another when you need/can get one!

The gtx 980 is still for preorders and at over £400 £450 is £100 more expensive than I was planning for something that runs cooler but not much faster. Is it worth it?

Hmm then go for GTX 970 is your best choice. And only for 250-300
