Question about 4k

After going to that Nvidia 24 hour thing in london I decided to get a 980 and a 4k screen

Question is properly stupid but I'm not sure.

Will 1080p games fill my display when I play? Will I have to change my resolution every time I play? and will 1080p look worse on a 4k screen than it does on a 1080p one?

This is the screen I saw at the event and intend to buy:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/28-acer-xb280hkbprz-4k2k...

Id think that 720 would blue but 1080 should scale? but I've been wrong before.

If anyone knows I would appreciate the help.

Thanks

Yes 1080P games will fill the display, and of course 1080P will look worse on 4k.

However, the good news is that all 2 and newer year old games will have 4k support so that shouldn't be a problem.

Considering as far as the numbers go '4K', or I believe this would be the term 'UHD' or 'Ultra HD' in the following example, should scale perfectly.

3840 x 2160 = Double 1920 x 1080.

Now there are other factors, this is just simple maths based on resolution. A 4K panel will have more pixels also, not multiplied in quite the same fashion (Or at least, that's my understanding of it thus far, might be wrong here).

I would imagine a Full HD image would look perfect on an UHD panel, but I would be interested to hear as to how it goes about doing it. Off the bat, I would presume that those extra pixels are essentially duplicated to get the image on screen at the same size.
Potentially, this might make for a crisper or clearer image.

Ideally though, it's best to stick with native resolutions for the best experience. Well, that's how it's been for me so far anyway.

Edit: The first line refers to the 'real' 4K term, which would actually be for over 4000 in width, but from what I can tell, this has been all but dropped in favour of the UHD marketing. The original, made reference to camera's. I'm fairly certain that such a pixel count sits somewhere around the 12MP region, although don't quote me on that.

Thanks for the reply, but why would they look worse? wouldn't it just look like 1080p?

If i understood your question then here is my feedback :
If you go for a 4k monitor and especially the one you selected is pretty good you dont need to change the resolution if you set it once.
Any game you play if you set them up at 4k they will look good dosent matter they are build up for that or not , i was playing doom 3 on 4k and it look great . But some games do scale out worst , because at that time 4k wasn't there and they(game developer) might not thought about it .
I would prefer before you do any purchase , please do analysis what games will you be playing because according to me 4k is only limited to 60hz which dont do good for first person shooters (FPS) and you will only be limited to 60 fps which is ok for few games but not all games.
I hope this helps.

ahhhh NO ... the screen you have mentioned is not 144 hz its 60 hz with Gsync , which is actually the father of Vsync and what it dose is directly sync with your graphic card to get accurate amount of frames rather than putting out frame to your screen where previous frame is not even finished ....

On top of that again 4k monitor which are releasing or will be releasing by the year end will be only 60 hz so far as i know ...
i would suggest something here if you really want to game like a hardcore gamer then i suggest this monitor :
http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/
i personally own this monitor after having samsung 4k monitor which wasn't that bad but yeah this monitor is pretty awesome and having 2 gtx titan black i easily have 120 to 137 fps ... and now i'm liquid cooling so lets see what will happened.
Hope it helps :)

let me ask you another question why 4k gaming because it look great let me give you my side of experience :

1) I has 2 gtx 78ti sc from evga .. games were running good but when i started playing call of duty or bf4 or bf hardline (something like that )... i was running out of memory so i return them back and got 2 gtx titan sc from evga and then i didn't had any issue but still 60 hz wasn't my type of thing on 4k monitor.
2) But running 2 gtx titan with every thing maxxxxxed out no issues now and the games look really awesome , until and unless you are not close to the monitor 4k and 21560 x 1440p will look slightly different and i can accept that , because the monitor i just mentioned on the above comment from Asus is really awesome.
