I have a £1500 budget for the GPU alone.

I've considered the 295X2 as it has gleaming reviews (and is only £729 atm), but the power consumption is through the roof! Admittedly less than a CrossFired 290X. But I fear for my electricity bills (hopefully someone can shine some light on this, either it'll be very expensive, unnoticeable or marginally noticeable etc.)

I'll need the vram, so perhaps the 290X 8GB version? Or an Nvidia card? I'm open to suggestions, eyeing up the 290X 8GB, but will happily buy an Nvidia card if it fits the bill!

Yeah and the 4 gigs is enough VRAM for 4k, also the "8 gigs" in the R9 295X2 is only 4 gigs each and they both have to have a copy of the VRAM so there is only 4 gigs usable(that is just how SLI/Crossfire work). So SLI GTX 980 would allow you to get a lower wattage PSU and save power/heat in the case.

Any particular manufacturer?

Anything unique about this card?

Have you used it? Any problems?

Any other information that'll convince me why this is the card that will successfully be the backbone of a £2300 rig? I want to max everything out with 60fps + in 5760 x 1080p etc. This card seems cheap (I'm not complaining!) perhaps something else will do the trick better?

ASUS or EVGA.
The GTX 980 is the strongest GPU for the price. It's stronger than the 780 Ti and R9 290X in some games and it needs a lot less power(180W as far as I know, while the 780 Ti's TDP is 250W).
It's a new card,I personally haven't used it,but those who have are very happy with it.
I just said why it's the best for the price. :)

Blower style is just about the only way to get the 980 currently, the custom ones got delayed somehow.

Three really? That might mean I'd need a Full Tower + water cooling... Or perhaps not due to the low power consumption... Because it's so new there's not many customer reviews (that I can find anyway).

Regardless, I'm seriously considering the 980 right now.

Any other suggestions or elaborations?
