I'm assuming second generation refers to Sandy Bridge so yes it would support both cards. What you should be worried about is if your power supply can support it.

It will definitely support up to a GTX 680, but make sure that your motherboard supports UEFI BIOS before upgrading to a GTX 760 or above. But yes, a GTX 660 will work well. Or wait for the GTX 960 to launch soon.

Since the mobo has one PCI-E x16 gen 2.0 , it supports any modern card - including GTX 660 and R9 270X .

The GTX 660 is a better option based on your budget.
