Hi guys, I have a msi Radeon R9 290 Gaming, and I am thinking about the new GTX 980.

Comparing the 2 cards, the GTX 980 is better?

I know that mine is 512 bits and have more shading units than 980, but the core clock and the memory clock of the 980 is higher. Also in passmark the GTX 980 hit 10,491 and the R9 290 6,477.

So far what do you guys think?

It will be worth the trade?

Simply enough, 980 smashes both 290 and 290X, coupled with 780 Ti, in every benchmark and game. 980 is the clear choice.

Hell, the 970 is faster than the 290.

Also, did you guys saw that AMD will be making an announcement this thursday? I think I will wait to see that, and if it doesn't beat the 980 will go for that!

I'm not confident it'll come close to 980, atleast not in value/money, besides 900 series is just so power efficient.

is it worth the extra £100 price tag compared to the 290x? how much better is it? the word "it smashes it" doesn't do it any justice
Sorry also looking to buy between the 2

It's a good idea to wait and see what is announced but I think it's highly unlikely to make a real big difference in this debate

And do you think it will be okay to use the GTX 980 with an AMD 8350 4.2ghz?

It'd not cause any visible bottlenecks. Might want to OC a bit more though.

As if this chart tells the whole story. It doesn't, with the GTX 980 you'll also get a card that is cooler, quieter, uses less power, offers full DirectX 12 support and access to exclusive graphics settings like DSR, MFAA, TXAA, FXAA, PhysX, HBAO+, and Adaptive VSync.
