Hello,
I have an Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 motherboard and I recently installed a new after market fan for my graphics card. After I started my computer back up the sound won't work through the motherboard. I've uninstalled and reinstalled different drivers many times and cannot get anything to work. My computer says everything is plugged in and working properly. My speakers when plugged in give off a static sound as if they were receiving sound, but they are not. I am confused as to what is happening. Any help would be great, thanks!

I have had the same problem with my onboard sound, so I got a sound card. Well, the sound card did the same thing after a couple years as well. I guess this is what it sounds like when sound cards fry. /prince

I am assuming that you are using the speaker outs. Try setting the sound to 5.1 or 7.1 mode, and use the other speaker outs for a test. If none of the jacks work, try the optical. If that doesnt work, well, the sound chip is fried.

Yeah that was my fear! It's weird that I only hear static with the speakers plugged in and yes it's a 2.1 system. I have tried all that you said. besides new sound card of course, but I guess it looks like that's the solution! I also find it weird that the jacks work and show the speakers plugged in. Even when looking at the sound test and everything I can see that the sound itself is working, just not coming through the speakers.
