Hello, i have a Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT Graphic card and the fan has stopped spinning recently.
I'm using some outside fan to keep it cool for now but i would actually like to fix the issue either by fixing the fan itself or perharps ordering a new one.

Could anyone give me some input on how to fix it or what fan should i order online to replace it?
Preferably from Newegg.ca

You will need to take the card out, then you will probably need to unscrew the fan on the heatsink or if there is a plate covering the fan, you will need to remove the plastic plating that is covering the fan before you can take it off. I suggest looking on eBay since you have a greater selection of fan replacements to get on there.

I see but which fan exactly should i order as replacement that would fit on my graphic card? I don't want to buy a random one that end up not working at all.

Do you have a reference 9600 GT card or what third party aftermarket cooler card?

Here is one search,
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p20506...

Since the fan will cost 9-12 dollars for most fans. I think it might just be better to get a new graphics card since the 9600 GT is kind of old.
You can probably sell the card but won't make a lot from it so it might just be better to keep it as a backup card.

You can get a used graphics card if you're on a tight budget but just make sure to buy from a reputable seller on eBay. You can get a nice upgrade by getting a HD 7750 or 7770 for 40 to 50 dollars if you wait patiently. They consume a little less power than the card you have but perform a lot faster and newer technologies.

What are your computer specs anyway including PSU and your budget for the new card?

Actually i plan to get a whole new PC based on the suggestion on this thread.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2299210/upgrade-...

But the thing is i plan to keep my hard drive for now and give my current PC to my sister once i get the new one. (her current PC is like from the year 2000...)

So i either want to fix the fan, buy a new fan, buy a identical graphic card, brand new graphic card or a new buy improved graphic card. As long as it stay cheap.
Also i plan to order everything from Newegg.ca because i don't want to buy from multiple differents website.

So any idea is welcome as long as i get to fix the issue.

Since you will be getting a new computer later on, then probably getting a cheap graphics card or fixing your current graphics card with little expense will probably be the best option so most of that money will go to your new build.

If the fan is indeed broken and not the card fan power header pins, then you can probably jury rig a small case fan or some computer fan onto the card by taping it onto the heatsink if possible and connect the power to the PSU as long as it isn't problematic.

If you don't have an extra case/computer fan, blowing air into your computer using an actual fan may be ok unless you really hate doing that.

If that is the case, you can buy a 40-50 dollar used card off eBay then. You can probably get a DDR3 version of the 7750 even cheaper, (around 40 or even a bit less if you waited).

When do you plan to get a whole new computer anyway?

Somewhere next month, i'm assuming i will get more than enough money to buy the computer parts from the thread i showed you earlier. Maybe even enough for a new fan. Who knows.

As for this new computer fan or Graphic card, it doesn't have to be the latest most powerfull card avaible. Anything equally good or even a tiny bit superior would do fine.

I only use Nvidia so what do you think would be the Nvidia Version of the HD 7750 or 7770?

The Nvidia equivalent to the HD 7750 and the HD 7770 would be the GTX 650 and the GTX 650 Ti cards.

I recommend getting the GTx 650 Ti only because of lower power consumption and since your sister will be upgrading from her really old pc to your hand me down pc, I wouldn't imagine her needing a lot of computer performance so a GTX 650 is pretty good.

If you don't plan on using this graphics card for long and that your sister doesn't really game or do anything that requires a decent amount of GPU horsepower, you can probably get something cheaper such as the lower end 700 or 600 series such as the GT 730 or something.

You might get this card even though its a used card but the price/performance compared to the lower end cards is better but it's up to you if you don't mind spending a few more dollars on it.

This is one card I found off of Newegg.ca

You might be able to find better deals however on other sites but you may prefer Newegg because of the 30 day RMA period.

Thank you for your trouble and time. I decided that i would end up simply buying some PCI slot Fan that would send the air directly on the Graphic Card to cool it off. It's cheap and i can buy it in the computer shop near by.

I'm assuming it's gonna work, friend suggested that too. So i'll give it a try.

No problem and I never tried a solution like that before but it sure does sound interesting. Enjoy your future computer!
